EDM #148: Soothing
There is something very soothing about anticipating and then walking out to the end of a very long wooden pier, into the heart of a vast marsh with absolutely no one around...the sound of sea-birds and waves crashing onto a wild, sandy beach way off to the east. This is one such pier I traversed while visiting the beautiful coastal islands of South Carolina-during the cold Christmas holiday.
This drawing is very similar to another one I did several months ago. An unintentional series seems to be developing.

I was drawn to this sketch with the pier that almost grabs the viewer and drags her into the horizon. I like the limited range of colors, too.
Great way to start off the new year - with two excellent drawings. I particularly like this one, which captures the experience you describe in your post quite well.
very beautiful drawing, it looks as serene as your description of the experience. I especially like how you frame it in with a few lines, and that the whole piece looks like a preliminary sketch to a finished oil painting. It has that same vitality of actually being in that same space.
Happy New Year to you Rah Kyndl!
This is wonderful. It is quite soothing! Your description makes me want to be there. How did you do the clouds?
gorgeous drawing, really gorgeous.
One of my favorites.
Rawk when I was at Fripp I took a photo from this same spot I think
What a beautiful sketch....so atmospheric...love the cross hatching...hard to beat a SC salt marsh unless its a GA one:> but i do think SC ones win...especially the ones on Edisto and Hunting Islands!
